Urbiztondo declared drug-cleared

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) officially declared the municipality of Urbiztondo as the 30th drug-cleared town in Pangasinan.

P/Chief Inspector Rizalina Suarez, Urbiztondo chief of police, said out of the 21 barangays in Urbiztondo, 19 drug-affected barangays were cleared of illegal drug trade and use. Barangays, Salabante and Pasibi West were unaffected from the very beginning.

He said only 260, out of 276 identified drug personalities, completed the community-based drug rehabilitation program, because sixteen others can no longer be located.

The 260 were provided livelihood training on bilao weaving and food for work program provided by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and completed the  moral recovery program of the local PNP, and spiritual counseling of religious groups.

Suarez said, though the town has been declared as drug cleared, the PNP will continue to monitor and visit the drug reformists and will be subjected to surprise drug tests to ensure their full rehabilitation. (Nora Dominguez)
